Directory of Free Census Transcriptions: censusfinder.com This site links to others with free transcriptions of census records, including those of Canada, US, American First Nations, UK, Norway and Sweden. I liked its organization: you narrow down the area first, then the year. Depending on your area of interest, you might also find links to sites with free records of other types, eg, newspaper obituaries and military records. Tracing Your Ancestors in Norway: digitalarkivet.uib.no/sab/howto.html This is an excellent resource for finding your Norwegian ancestors, published by the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, it was last updated in 2002 so some of the website and mailing addresses may be out-of-date. How Popular is your Given Name?: babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/ Inv0105.html Wondering when the (formerly trendy) name Linda was most popular? This website will draw a chart showing the popularity of any given name from the 1880s to the present. The data comes from the US Social Security files. (Not surprisingly, Margaret has been on the decline since the 1910s! :-)

Handheld Genealogy: palmsource.com/interestslgenealogy Is a Palm or other handheld PDA (personal digital assistant) on your family history gadget wishlist? This article is a good summary of how a PDA could help you, complete with lots of links to software vendors and discussion forums.
Chinese-Canadian Genealogy: ccg.vpl.ca Vancouver Public Library has created an excellent resource for Chinese-Canadians seeking their roots. I was interested to read that, while Europeans have usually had at most two given names, Chinese men may have had different given names at different stages of their lives: as babies, as schoolchildren, as grooms, and as members of extended families (among others!)
Canada Census Day is coming: census2006.ca Mark May 16th on your calendars: it's the date of the 2006 census. This site has a preview of the list of questions you'll be asked. When you fill out your census form, be sure to check OK to allow your information to be made public in 92 years. Future family historians will thank you!
